Kitchen Wishlist

I recently posted about my book wishlist, but I thought I’d also mention some things I’m dying to get for the kitchen!

A wooden breadboard/chopping board.

I have one wooden breadboard/chopping board and I love it. I have another two glass ones, but I’m always worried they’re going to break (and they’re no good for sitting hot items from the oven/stove on).

These breadboards are available from the Melbourne Breadboard Company who have a stall at the Queen Victoria Market on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Luckily my mother works near there…

A cherry pitter.

So far I haven’t made any cherry jam, but my parents have a few cherry trees at their house. They’re only young yet, but once they start producing cherries, watch out! (Don’t worry, technically one of the trees is mine. My parents bought it for me for my birthday last year, and then realised it was a sour cherry – only good for jam – and so they kept it. I don’t mind (much) since I don’t have a lot of room in my backyard anyway.) This would also be handy for sending cherries to school with the kids. Mr J has a sensory processing disorder and anything with pips is OUT as far as he’s concerned. This one is available at Everten for around $17 plus postage, though if you sign up to their newsletter I believe you receive free postage for one purchase.

A strawberry huller.

OXO Strawberry Huller

I made strawberry jam for Christmas presents last year. I won’t be making it again this year unless someone happens to be having a HUGE bargain on strawberries, but I am growing my own strawberry plants and  hope to make at least a few small batches. Fishpond have one for around $25 with free shipping.

An OXO food mill.

I’ve heard good things about this brand, and look, it’s all pretty and enamelled! You can buy this from Williams Sonoma’s Australian website for around $65, plus shipping.

A garlic press

Though first I need to find and plant some garlic – there’s always something you forget to put in the garden! This one is also available from Everten for around $25 plus postage.

Attachments for my Kenwood Mixer (KM300).

I had no idea you could get these until I was browsing around JB Hifi (they sell household goods now, donchaknow) while Nick was looking at music stuff. I’m amazed at the range of attachments you can get but for now I’d like a plastic bowl (for the things you can’t use stainless steel for)

I’d also like a pasta making attachment:

Unfortunately the only places that I’ve found these two attachments are online shops in the UK. Perhaps a retailer would be able to order them in, but I suspect they’re in short supply here.

What items are you hoping to get for Christmas? Or which kitchen items would you recommend?
